David Bird
President & CEO

As our senior executive, David collaborates with our Board to set the strategic direction for the company and, in conjunction with the leadership team, is responsible for execution of Verve’s strategic plan. David is active in all business aspects including people resources, project development, acquisitions and dispositions, operations, finance and accounting, and sales and marketing, fulfilling our brand promise of delivering inspired senior living across each and every Verve residence in Canada.

Scott Quinney
Chief Operating Officer (COO)

As the COO of Verve Senior Living, Scott collaborates closely with Regional Vice Presidents across Canada to ensure Verve’s resident-centered approach remains at the forefront of our operations. Scott works to inspire our leaders and team members to provide the highest levels of service in senior living and to make our residences outstanding places to work.

Prior to joining the Verve team, Scott held senior leadership roles at leading hotel and senior living brands in Alberta and British Columbia.

Scott enjoys long-distance running, hiking, cycling, and spending time with his five godchildren in his off time.

Leila Burden Nixon
General Counsel

As general counsel, Leila manages the legal and corporate governance matters relating to Verve’s operations and growth across Canada. She works to maintain and promote the goals of an inspired senior living business in a way that combines the highest standards of integrity, inclusivity and functionality while mitigating risk and providing responsive and practical approaches to further Verve’s strategic plan.

Prior to joining the team at Verve, Leila was a member of the real estate and financial services group at Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP for over 15 years. Leila earned a Bachelor of Science from York University and her MBA and LLB from Dalhousie University.

Millie Christie
Vice President, People

Responsible for Human Resources & Labour Relations, Millie leads a talented team dedicated to ensuring that our passionate staff lives and breathes the Verve promise of delivering inspired senior living every single day. Millie is devoted to supporting and nurturing our unique culture while ensuring that the company remains an employer of choice.

Millie has a Bachelor of Science as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration. She serves on the Board and is a past Board President for the Ontario Retirement Communities Association, where she is active in developing legislative outcomes that are positive for the industry.

Shawn Ouellette
VP Operations – Ontario

As our Vice President, Operations – Ontario, Shawn provides leadership and support to our retirement residences in Ontario and is dedicated to Verve’s initiatives to ensure the delivery of the highest quality of service to our residents.

Collaborating with our Corporate Operations Team, Area Managers, and General Managers, Shawn works to empower our team members to exude vibrancy, spirit, life, and passion in every one of our residences.

Prior to joining Verve, Shawn held senior leadership roles in retirement living and long-term care throughout Canada. Shawn holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree and Master of Health Studies degree. In his time off, he loves to travel and experience new cultures around the world.

Stephanie Hanchar
VP Operations Finance

As the VP of Operations Finance, Stephanie provides key financial leadership in overseeing the Accounting team at Verve.  With a passion for service excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement and internal controls, Stephanie and her team establish and execute financial initiatives which benefit our Verve communities. Stephanie has a proven record of financial leadership and developing others through her extensive experiences from across the globe. Her skillset and accounting knowledge provided the opportunity to work in a senior finance capacity in countries such as Australia, England and Germany. Prior to joining the Verve team, she most recently served as a Senior Manager in a pharmaceutical company overseeing finance, tax and treasury.

Dameion Reid
National Director, Information Technology

As our National Director of Information Technology, Dameion brings over 23 years of professional experience in driving Technology and Business Strategy. Dameion is responsible for not only keeping the “lights on” when it comes to technology but also has a track record of matching technology to improve the lives of our residents and staff. Dameion leads Verve’s Information Technology team that is responsible for the day-to-day operations as well as the overall execution of strategies that support the vision of inspiring our seniors. Prior to joining Verve, Dameion lead IT teams in various industries from Sports and Entertainment at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment to Senior Living at Chartwell Retirement Residences as well as a Managed IT Services at TNT Technical Services. In his off time, Dameion enjoys traveling, mentoring and coaching youth basketball.

Denise Kato
National Director, Health & Wellness

Denise earned her RPN Diploma from Centennial College and has continued her education by taking related courses at Centennial and Durham College. She joined the senior’s living sector in 1997 working for Diversicare as an RPN at Altamont Nursing Home. Denise was an Instructor of the Resident Centered Care course for five years and in addition to that she worked with Centennial College as a content developer. She has held positions at 2 Verve residences before joining Stouffville Creek in 2012 as the General Manager. Denise’s professionalism in nursing, along with her passion for the health and well-being of our residents will strengthen the foundation and grow our health and wellness programs.

Ruth Langdon
Regional Director of Wellness – Western Canada

Ruth joined Verve in 2001 as a Staff Nurse with a background in Geriatric Nursing and consistently displayed excellent organizational and leadership skills rising to the challenges of General Manager, Area Manager and now Regional Director of Wellness for Western Canada. Ruth’s people skills and passion for our Senior industry have led her to develop wonderful relationships with our Residents, their Families and Team members across our organization.

Christina Natalino
Regional Director, Operations – Ontario

Christina feels privileged to be serving seniors for the length of her career, originally starting in Long Term Care with Diversicare in 2007. Since then, she has held various positions within the industry, most recently returning to Verve Senior Living as a General Manger and Area Manager. As Regional Director, Operations – Ontario, Christina utilizes her leadership, strategic, and operational skills to continue to elevate operations across Ontario and support our General Managers.

Udo Schwarze
Regional Director, Operations – Ontario Canada

As Regional Director, Operations – Ontario, Udo is actively supporting our residences in eastern Ontario. He ensures that all the residences provide the highest levels of care, exceptional accommodations, engaging activities, and memorable dining experiences. Udo has a passion for excellence, building teams, and mentoring colleagues.

Before joining the senior living industry, Udo worked for several independent as well as high-end hotel brands in Asia, Europe, and North America.

In his free time, Udo and his wife enjoy travelling to and exploring new destinations, experiencing the local cuisines, and soaking in all that these destinations have to offer. When not supporting his residences in Ontario or travelling the globe, Udo enjoys racquet sports and spending time with his wife and two rescue cats.

Sheri Brown
Regional Director, Sales & Marketing – Western Canada

Sheri Brown, bringing with her more than two decades of invaluable experience in real estate sales & marketing, has been an active and influential figure in the senior housing sector, making significant strides in improving the lives of senior individuals and advocating to make their lives better since 2014.

Sheri’s journey in the seniors housing industry began as a natural progression, combining her passion for helping others with her expertise in sales & marketing.  Sheri’s experience spans various aspects of the senior housing landscape, ranging from managing operations at a community level to contributing her insights and expertise at a corporate level. Her in-depth understanding of the industry’s intricacies has allowed her to implement innovative and effective strategies, ensuring that senior residents receive the highest standard of care and support. Sheri has volunteered her time and expertise on several boards, including the esteemed British Columbia Seniors Living Association.  Sheri embraces life to the fullest through her love for exploration and adventure. Travelling to different places, she gains inspiration from diverse cultures and experiences, enriching her perspective on life and compassion for others. Sheri finds solace and joy in connecting with nature and staying active.

Linda Tittel
Regional Director, Sales & Marketing – Ontario

Linda brings 15 years of senior living experience in both sales and operations to Verve including General Management and Regional oversight. She develops plans and tactics to support the Community Relations Managers in the residences who in turn find comforting lifestyle solutions for seniors. Linda contributes to strategies that create and strengthen the Verve brand awareness across Canada. Prior to senior living Linda spent over 20 years in the hospitality industry again in both sales/marketing and operations. Her happy place is relaxing at the end of a dock in Muskoka, best when joined by her husband, kids, and chocolate brown lab Charlie.

Kyle Toplis
Regional Director, Environmental Services – Ontario

Kyle forged his career around facility management with a focus on building systems and preventative maintenance. Bringing 11 years of experience supporting environmental departments in the Retirement and Long-Term Care sector to his position at Verve, Kyle’s primary focus is executing capital projects and maintaining Verve’s assets while ensuring resident satisfaction. In his spare time, Kyle enjoys golfing, morning runs, and hiking with his wife and dog.

Andrea Monteiro
Regional Director, Environmental Services – Western Canada

Andrea brings over 20 years of experience in Operations supporting Environmental Services, Infection Prevention and Control as well as Health and Safety in Acute Care Hospitals and Long-Term Care Facilities across Canada.  Her passion is sharing her experiences to enhance a safe and clean environment for patients, residents, staff, and visitors by creating quality programs that exceed standards at all levels.  Andrea will be proving leadership and support to the Environment Services teams in B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan to enhance programs and collaborate on initiatives to enrich the lives of our Seniors in our Residences.

Andrea enjoys reading, traveling, and cooking for family and friends.

Bryan Simmons
Regional Director, Dining Services – Ontario

Bryan is a Food & Beverage Professional who carries over 20 years of experience as a chef in private clubs, fine dining restaurants, high volume kitchens, and multi-unit operations. As Regional Director of Dining Services for Ontario, Bryan brings a passion for all things culinary. His philosophy surrounds well prepared scratch cooking, and the notion that food has the ability to tell a story, bring loved ones together, and the power to connect strangers. He believes that a chef should not ever just simply be providing a meal, but providing an experience. In collaboration with Verve’s talented team of chefs and dining rooms staff, he strives to deliver memorable dining experiences each day to our residents in Ontario.

Bruce Schell
Food & Beverage Manager – Western Canada

Bruce has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He has worked at many high-quality hotels and resorts throughout Canada and has earned the distinguished credentials of Certified Chef de Cuisine from the Canadian Culinary Federation. As Food and Beverage Manager for Western Canada, Bruce leads our western team of Executive Chefs and Dining Services Managers, creating the highest quality dining experience for our Verve residents, every day.
