The first time Helen walked into Holland Gardens Retirement Residence, she knew it was the place she needed to be. The residence felt warm and welcoming, and the friendliness of both residents and team members stood out right away.

Helen grew up as the youngest of six children, in the township of Adjala. She later shared 62 wonderful years with her husband Bill, in Nobelton, Ontario raising 2 children and welcoming 2 grandchidren. Connection has always been an important part of who she is.

That sense of familiarity continued at Holland Gardens. Having lived and worked a short distance from Bradford, Helen recognized several residents and even some of their visitors. Seeing familiar faces helped her feel at ease and confident that she had made the right choice.

She describes Holland Gardens as clean, welcoming, and full of social life. Being able to walk to nearby amenities matters to her, and she appreciates how easy it is to stay active and engaged.

From day one, Helen chose to get involved. She joined activities like Jeopardy, exercise classes, Bingo, and card games, meeting people naturally along the way. Before long, she felt a sense of belonging.

One of her earliest memories took place in the dining room. On her first visit, she was invited to join three women at their table. They made her feel comfortable immediately, and through conversation, they discovered just how much they had in common.

Now, Helen enjoys extending that same welcome to others. She takes time to greet new residents and visitors, share her experience, and answer questions for those considering Holland Gardens as their future home. “Get involved. Come out and join in the activities. Meet the residents!”
